It was a day like any other for Reddit user Katybugfoster — or so she thought.
Katybugfoster has a beloved black Lab named Angus, whom she has enrolled in doggy daycare. He’s been going for about three years, so their process of dropping off and picking up has become pretty much routine.
“We really like them and have had a great experience with them,” Katybugfoster told The Dodo.
However, the other day after picking up Angus, something just felt … off.

When Katybugfoster arrived to the daycare and Angus was trotted out, he was happy to see her like always. He hopped in the car and sat through the drive home just like he always does.
But then they got there — and Katybugfoster began to sense that something was amiss.
“He started sniffing everyone,” she said. “Angus usually just runs to the door. I figured maybe Angus had a really exciting day and was extra energetic, but the sniffing continued inside the house as well.”
It was almost as if the dog had never been there before.
This was his expression.

Over the next 10 minutes or so, Katybugfoster continued to noticed Angus not being quite his usual self.
“At first, I thought maybe Angus had been hurt at daycare, and that’s why he was acting strange,” Katybugfoster said. “But my skepticism grew, and I started to really doubt my sanity and my dog.”
Following her gut, Katybugfoster decided to check the dog’s teeth. Angus has a chipped tooth that could confirm his true identity.
Turns out, the dog inside Katybugfoster’s home did not.
It wasn’t Angus, after all.

With that, Katybugfoster and the imposter dog were soon on their way back to doggy daycare to sort out the apparent mix-up.
“They were very apologetic. It was an innocent mistake,” Katybugfoster said. “The imposter dog’s dad was waiting at daycare when I returned, and we all had a laugh about it.”
The imposter dog, named Billy, did look incredibly similar to Angus. But to make matters even more confusing, staff at the daycare had even mistakenly given Billy the collar belonging to Angus.
Thankfully, Katybugfoster’s instincts were able to suss out the error — and all was eventually set right.

“Angus seemed a little miffed that I picked him up so late, even though I wasn’t actually late,” Katybugfoster said. “I was very relieved to have him back, and of course, now I look at him and think, ‘How could I have ever thought that other dog was mine?’”
